Zelenskiy praises Ukrainians for battles with Russia and the weather. President Volodymyr Zelenskiy expressed gratitude to the Ukrainian military for repelling Russian strikes and to the emergency services for responding to the aftermath of the severe winter weather that, according to him, had cut off electricity to roughly 400 communities across ten districts.
Zelenskiy stated in his nightly video message that “extremely challenging weather” was hitting areas from the Kyiv region in the north to Odesa in the south and that there was continuous, violent combat in the eastern regions of Donetsk and Kharkiv.
Oleg Kryuchkov, a top official appointed in Moscow, stated that in Crimea, the peninsula Russia occupied in 2014, around 500,000 people lacked electricity.
In response to reports of strong winds, flooded homes, snow-bound roads, and damaged structures, the leaders of the Russian-installed regions of Crimea, the Black Sea port of Sevastopol, and the portion of the Kherson area under Moscow’s administration announced Monday off.
According to Ukraine’s border service, Moldova has temporarily stopped allowing vehicles to enter Ukraine at two crossing points in the Odesa area. Authorities in Moldova have also requested that local schools consider shutting down because of the snow and strong winds.
Henadii Trukhanov, the mayor of Odesa, advised locals to stay home. Local officials asked residents to stockpile water as power outages prevented pumps from operating and disrupted water deliveries.
A transmission tower in the Odesa area broke in two as a result of strong winds, as revealed by power grid operator Ukrenergo, who also stated, “We are doing everything possible to overcome the consequences of the bad weather as soon as possible and restore light to every home.”
