Hashtags are creative tools to express commentary on whatever someone is posting through twitter or instagram. Hashtags can be humorous and clever or obnoxious and annoying. They are particularly irritating when used in everyday speech.
In one definition, Urban Dictionary describes hashtags as, “a ridiculous replacement for the pound sign” and in another definition as, “the battlecry of hipsters”. Nevertheless, hashtags aren’t all bad. They are often useful indicators of current trends and a way to unite frequent users of social media.
Some hashtags become more popular than others. Recently, “#youwerecuteuntil” has become popular. Basically, its exactly what it sounds like. People, or companies, will provide a statement about a specific person or a generality and declare why it is has abruptly lost its appeal and therefore is no longer pleasant.
This tagline has been a tool for humor more often a rude way of ousting people or a specific tendency. It is often used by young girls to express their frustrations about certain men not being members of “One Direction”. Below are some noteworthy uses of #youwerecuteuntil from twitter.
