Associated Press reported Wednesday that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy invited China President Xi Jinping to visit.
“We are eager to meet him here,” Zelenskiy told the news agency in an interview.
China released a 12-point proposal for “a political resolution of the Ukrainian situation” last month, although Xi hasn’t spoken to Zelenskiy since Russia invaded Ukraine in February.
On an official visit to Moscow last week, Xi spoke with his “close friend” Russian President Vladimir Putin about the war, but they made little headway.
China calls for Ukraine’s de-escalation and ceasefire.
Given China’s silence on Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the US has rejected the suggestion.
The US claims a truce would cement Russian territory gains and give Putin’s army more time to reorganize.
Ukraine welcomes China’s diplomatic participation, but Zelenskiy would only discuss peace deals once Russian forces leave Ukrainian soil.
