CNN reported on Friday, citing an organizer, that pharmacy employees at select Walgreens (WBA.O) locations in the United States intend to leave their jobs between Monday and Wednesday. These personnel include pharmacists, technicians, and support staff.
According to the network, which cited staff in three states, some workers want to go on strike for just one day, while others anticipate closing their pharmacies for all three days.
According to the BBC, the strike was in response to what pharmacy workers consider heavy requirements for prescriptions and vaccinations put on pharmacists.
Reuters could not quickly reach any employees reportedly participating in the action for comment.
In an email response, Walgreens stated that the company was actively involved in the conversation and listening to the concerns made by several of its team members. “We are making significant investments in pharmacist wages and hiring bonuses to attract/retain talent in harder-to-staff locations,” according to the organization.
This week, nurses, medical technicians, and support personnel working for Kaiser Permanente walked off the job at hospitals and clinics for 72 hours, making it the longest strike in the history of the healthcare industry in the United States.
Friday marked the conclusion of a strike that had been ongoing since Monday and involved 75,000 workers. Both parties have agreed to continue stalled contract discussions, but union officials have warned of the possibility of more walkouts.
