A story in the German paper Bild am Sonntag says that Volkswagen and Mercedes-Benz of Germany have asked the government to speed up the building of charging stations for electric vehicles across the country.
Ola Kallenius, CEO of Mercedes-Benz, was cited as saying,
“We need to make sure that charging stations are built so that the switch to electric cars can happen faster.”
Oliver Blume, the CEO of Volkswagen, said that the development of charging stations was “a job for the economy, the federal government, and communes to do together.”
In October, the German government approved a plan to spend 6.3 billion euros ($6.74 billion) to increase the number of charging stations around the country quickly.
It was done to move the country closer to having net-zero emissions.
The strategy calls for expediting state authorization for the construction of charging stations. Implementing the ideas is crucial since industry organizations have long complained that the government needs to keep up with the rapidly growing use of electric vehicles.
Ola Kallenius also reportedly stated,
“We aim to be prepared to fully switch to electric automobiles in our market category by the end of this decade, wherever the market conditions permit it.”
That won’t happen automatically; a massive industrial conversion will be necessary “.
