White House says that Vietnam Air signs a $7.8 bln deal for 50 Boeing 737 max planes. On Monday, the White House said that the value of Vietnam Airlines‘ (HVN.HM) agreement to purchase 50 737 Max planes from the American aircraft manufacturer Boeing (BA.N) is $7.8 billion.

The remark gives credence to the amount of the transaction Reuters reported on Sunday, citing a source as their authority. Reuters also reported that Boeing intended to sell the planes to Vietnam Air.

The requests for comments made by Reuters were not immediately met with a response from Boeing or Vietnam Airlines. According to the International Air Transport Association (IATA), Vietnam was the fifth fastest-growing aviation market in the world in 2022 when it lifted COVID-19 travel restrictions. IATA also predicts that the country will serve 150 million air transport passengers by 2035. The White House announced the deal between the two companies on Sunday.

VietJet (VJC.HM), a competitor of Vietnam Airlines, has agreed with Boeing to purchase 200 of Boeing’s 737 MAX aircraft.

The Vice President of the United States, Joe Biden, is presently visiting Hanoi, and senior executives from various companies are taking advantage of this chance to build new commercial connections.

Nvidia (NVDA.O) is partnering with Vietnam’s FPT, Viettel, and Vingroup (VIC.HM), the parent company of VinFast, to work on artificial intelligence in the country. These were two other deals that the White House announced during Vice President Biden’s visit to Vietnam. Microsoft (MSFT.O) plans to make a “generative AI-based solution tailored for Vietnam and emerging markets.”
