Viagra Sale Charges: Spanish Priest Detained in Don Benito

In Spain, an unnamed priest has been arrested for his alleged involvement in a Viagra trafficking operation from his residence. Alongside another man, the clergyman is suspected of selling the medication and “other powerful aphrodisiac substances,” as reported by El Pais. The arrest, which occurred in the western Extremadura region’s town of Don Benito, followed a months-long investigation into the purported illegal sale of controlled substances.

According to Spanish news outlets, the detained second individual is said to be the priest’s romantic partner, and they allegedly sold substances from their shared home. The property was under police surveillance and was subsequently raided by the Civil Guard on Monday.

While Viagra is legally available from pharmacies in Spain, the nature of the other substances reportedly sold remains unclear. The priest, who appeared in court charged with a criminal offense, denies the allegations, and his lawyer contends that there is no evidence incriminating his client, asserting that the priest did not know about the activities.

The Diocese of Plasencia, to which the priest’s church belongs, released a statement expressing that it is “waiting for the facts to be clarified” and for the investigation to continue. The church regretted the events described, acknowledging the pain, suffering, and scandal associated with the allegations.
