Lopez Obrador says the US and Mexico will keep border crossings open. After several essential rail crossings were temporarily closed owing to the significant number of migrants arriving at the shared border, Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said on Thursday that representatives from Mexico and the United States had agreed to maintain the border crossings’ openness.

“This agreement has been reached, and the rail crossings and the border bridges are already being opened to normalize the situation,” Lopez Obrador stated at a press conference in the morning. “Every day, there is more movement on the border bridges.”

Lopez Obrador stated that the conversations on Wednesday with the United States delegation, which included Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas, were “direct” because of the significance of border trade for both countries.

The discussions occur when a big caravan of migrants approaching the border to enter the United States of America is progressively approaching. Approximately 1,500 people were part of this caravan, according to Lopez Obrador’s most recent figure.

The subject of fentanyl, which is a potent and lethal narcotic, was reported to have been “hardly discussed,” according to the president.

The United States of America has been exerting pressure on Mexico to take further measures to combat the trafficking of fentanyl, while Mexico has been advocating for increased restrictions from the United States to make it more difficult for guns from the neighboring nation to reach powerful drug gangs.
