In a Monday CNBC interview, UPS.N CEO Carol Tome claimed the union’s $30 billion five-year pact with Teamsters-represented employees would cost less.
UPS Chief Financial Officer Brian Newman warned previously that the deal, which covers 340,000 US UPS employees, will boost salary and benefit expenditures at a 3.3% compound annual growth rate.
Newman said 46% of pay and benefits expenses from the new deal would be recorded this year, and contract-related expenditures in the second half of 2023 are projected to be $500 million higher than UPS planned. The arrangement ends on July 31, 2028.
Last month, the Atlanta-based firm lowered its full-year sales and profitability forecasts due to increasing labor expenses and business losses during Teamsters contract negotiations.
