UN Spokesperson Refrains from Responding to Biden: A UN spokesman, Farhan Haq, chose not to directly address US President Joe Biden’s remarks about India’s economy, according to recent developments. According to Biden, India’s economic woes stem from the country’s alleged “xenophobic” attitude toward immigration. When asked about the United Nations’ position on the subject, Haq deftly avoided responding to Biden’s comment and instead cited the term of “xenophobia” in his conversation with a Chinese TV reporter.

In his address on Wednesday, Biden brought emphasis to the importance of immigration to economic growth, drawing attention to the alleged unwillingness of countries such as India, China, Japan, and Russia to accept immigrants as a cause of their economic difficulties. This claim, however, is at odds with the opinions of numerous international organizations and multinational firms, which provide an alternative view of the economic processes at play in these countries.

For example, figures from the International Monetary Fund show that India’s economy grew at a faster rate than America’s. This is in stark contrast to Biden’s claim that India’s economy is “stalling,” since official figures show growth of 7.8% in 2017 compared to 2.5% in the US. Further expansion is anticipated, with projections indicating that the Indian economy will rise by 6.8% this year, surpassing predictions for the US economy.

In a similar vein, China’s economy grew at 5.2% last year despite domestic difficulties, and many predict that it will grow again this year, albeit at a slower pace. In contrast to Biden’s simplistic account, these numbers show a more complex economic reality.

When asked about Biden’s statements, White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre tried to put the president’s words in context, saying that they were a reflection on the importance of immigration to the country’s development. Efforts have been taken in recent years to enhance diplomatic ties with nations like Japan, India, and others, she said, emphasizing the administration’s dedication to this cause.

The United Nations is committed to protecting human rights, which includes the equal treatment of people of different races and ethnicities, as Haq emphasized. He called for concerted action to ensure that all member states upheld the principles stated in the United Nations Human Rights Conventions.

Ultimately, it is critical to take into account a more thorough comprehension of the economic elements involved, even though Biden’s comments may have generated discussion. Talking things out and working together are still the best ways to solve global problems and help governments deal with complicated topics like immigration policy and economic growth.
