The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) issued “notices of suspicion” of theft to tycoon Dmytro Firtash and company executives on Monday.
Reuters did not immediately hear back from Firtash’s Vienna-based agent.
The SBU and the Economic Security Bureau (BEB) discovered a “large-scale scheme” to steal $485 million of fuel from Ukraine’s gas transportation infrastructure.
Ukraine has been opposing Russia’s invasion and reducing business people’s political power since the fall of the USSR.
Last June, Ukraine sanctioned Firtash for selling titanium materials to Russian military companies. Firtash refused them.
Ukrainian businessman Firtash was indicted in the US for bribery and racketeering. However, he resisted Vienna’s extradition.
