On Monday, Ukraine’s deputy foreign minister said Kyiv wants Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other top officials to visit to assist in resolving its crisis with Russia.

In an interview with CNBC TV18, Emine Dzhaparova said Kyiv expects India to invite Ukrainian representatives to G20 events and strengthen political interaction.

India hosts a September leaders conference as G20 president. New Delhi has increased its purchase of Russian oil, the lifeline of its economy, while others have pushed to reduce or restrict it.

“We feel India should be active and involved in the Ukrainian problem to a significant level,” Dzhaparova told the channel during her four-day visit to New Delhi.

“We think high-level political engagement is the first step toward this great aim. My president wants to call the Prime Minister. We want to see him in Kyiv “she stated.

She told reporters previously that India should be realistic in ensuring its energy and defense resources and avoid dependency on Russia.

In September, Modi warned Putin that “this is not a period of war” and advocated a diplomatic solution to the Ukraine issue.

Once Europe banned Russian oil imports, India increased its buying.

Russia, like the Soviet Union before it, has been India’s principal supplier of armaments and defense equipment for decades, and it has now surpassed Iraq as its leading oil supplier.
