Russian missiles hit civilian buildings in Ukraine’s Black Sea port of Odesa and the eastern Donetsk area overnight, killing at least six people, military and municipal officials reported early Wednesday.
According to Ukraine’s South Command, Russia fired four cruise missiles on Odesa. The military said two missiles were destroyed before striking their objectives.
The South command reported on Telegram that air combat and blast waves damaged a commercial center, an educational institution, a residential complex, culinary establishments, and stores in the city center.
The military reported that a rocket hit and burned a retail chain’s warehouse, killing three workers. Seven injured.
“Sifting through debris continues,” the military stated. “There may be people under.”
Serhiy Bratchuk, a spokesman for the Odesa military administration, uploaded a video and photos of multi-story buildings with missing walls and windows and firefighters fighting flames in a warehouse.
Pavlo Kyrylenko, the governor of eastern Donetsk, alleged on Facebook that Russian forces killed three civilians in a separate missile strike.
He reported two Kramatorsk and one Kostiantynivka deaths.
“The missiles… hit private houses in the cities and caused significant damage: in Kramatorsk, at least 5 were destroyed and about two dozen damaged, in Kostiantynivka, two were destroyed and 55 damaged,” he claimed.
Overnight, Ukrainian Air Forces destroyed three missiles and nine drones.
The reports were unverified by Reuters. Russia remained silent. Russia and Ukraine deny military operations targeting civilians.
