The UK promises Ukraine long-range attack drones after Zelenskiy arrives. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy will meet Prime Minister Rishi Sunak in Britain on Monday to tour several key European allies ahead of a massive Ukrainian counter-offensive against Russian soldiers.
Britain was the first to deliver Ukraine with long-range cruise missiles last week, allowing its forces to attack Russian troops and supply dumps behind the front lines.
Sunak’s office said the British leader would confirm the provision of hundreds of air defense missiles and other unmanned aircraft systems on Monday, including hundreds of long-range attack drones with over 200 kilometers.
Zelenskiy met with European leaders in Berlin, Rome, and Paris over the weekend to gain military and financial help for Ukraine.
London today. The UK leads in ground and air capability expansion. “This cooperation will continue today,” Zelenskiy tweeted.
I’ll see Rishi. We will negotiate substantively face-to-face and in delegations.”
Zelenskiy arrived in Britain and would meet Sunak at Chequers, the British administration said.
“This is a crucial moment in Ukraine’s resistance to a terrible war,” Sunak remarked.
“They need sustained support from the international community to defend against the barrage of unrelenting and indiscriminate attacks that have been their daily reality for over a year.”
Britain provided 2.3 billion pounds ($2.9 billion) in military aid to Ukraine last year and pledged a similar sum for 2023, second only to the US.
Britain, the US, and Germany pledged 14 combat tanks to Ukraine in January. Zelenskiy also spoke via video link at the Copenhagen Democracy Summit on Monday.
