UK PM Sunak sacks Interior Minister Braverman over protest comments. Following her criticism of the way the police handled a pro-Palestinian march, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak removed Suella Braverman from her position as Interior Minister on Monday, according to a source within the government. This move was part of a more extensive reshuffle.
According to the source, Sunak took action against his interior minister after coming under pressure to oust Braverman from MPs from the opposition and members of his own governing Conservative Party. He asked her “to leave government,” and she complied with his request.
According to the political editor of the newspaper The Sun, Foreign Secretary James Cleverly is going to take her position.
While Sunak was reorganizing his ministerial team, former Prime Minister David Cameron was observed entering Downing Street, which sparked rumors that he might be rejoining the government in some capacity.
Braverman disobeyed Sunak by posting an article last week that accused the police of adopting “double standards” in its management of protesters. According to opposition Labour, this argument heightened emotions during a pro-Palestinian demonstration on Saturday.
After that, more than 140 individuals were arrested as a result of clashes between counter-protesters on the extreme right and police officers who were attempting to keep them away from the 300,000 people marching in support of Palestine.
It is anticipated that Sunak will implement more changes in his cabinet, including adding supporters and removing those ministers whose Downing Street office claims they have not been doing as effectively as Sunak wanted them to in their respective areas.
