UK petrol station group EG to buy Tesla charging units. On Monday, the British gasoline station operator EG Group said that it will purchase ultra-fast charging devices from Tesla (TSLA.O) to assist it in the rollout of its electric car charging network across Europe.
The affluent Issa brothers, who also own the UK grocery chain Asda, announced plans to expand EG’s charging network from the more than 600 current chargers to more than 20,000 chargers at its facilities over time.
The adoption of electric vehicles is considered critical to achieving Britain’s objective of attaining net zero emissions by the year 2050; nevertheless, the automotive industry has requested a more rapid extension of the public charging network to make it possible for drivers to make the changeover.
According to numbers released by the government on October 1st, the United Kingdom has slightly over 49,000 public charging stations for electric vehicles installed.
The company claims that EG’s purchase of Tesla chargers with an “open network” will enable all drivers, regardless of the brand of their vehicles, to use them.
Rebecca Tinucci, senior director of charging infrastructure at Tesla, stated that “the rapid installation of reliable, easy-to-use EV charging infrastructure is the right step towards a sustainable future.”
She said that Tesla’s lightning-fast charging technology will also be available for purchase to “other leaders” in the industry.
