During Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s visit to the United Arab Emirates, Italian energy major Eni (ENI.MI) and Abu Dhabi National Oil Co (ADNOC) agreed to work together to promote the energy transition, according to UAE state news agency WAM.

According to WAM, Eni and ADNOC will collaborate to cut new emissions, enhance energy security, and hasten the expansion of low-carbon businesses and industries.

According to sources in the Italian administration, the two countries signed a statement of intent on strategic collaboration during Meloni’s meeting with UAE President Prince Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on Saturday.

The UAE’s climate envoy and president-elect of the COP28 climate summit, Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, and Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani also signed a declaration of intent regarding climate strategy. Al Jaber promised last month to present an inclusive and creative roadmap to combat global warming.
