U.S. sues eBay over sale of harmful products. The United States government filed a lawsuit against eBay (EBAY.O) on Wednesday, accusing the company of breaking federal environmental laws by failing to prevent the sale of certain hazardous items through its online marketplace.
The United States Department of Justice objected to the selling of aftermarket equipment that was meant to assist automobiles to operate better by avoiding government pollution restrictions. The lawsuit objecting to the sale of these goods was filed in a federal court in Brooklyn, New York.
In addition, it took issue with the distribution of items that include methylene chloride for the removal of paint and coatings and the distribution of pesticides that were either misbranded or banned.
The Department of Justice stated that some of the items cause cars to produce “massive amounts of air pollution,” while other products provide an immediate threat to people’s lives and have the potential to take their lives.
