According to a Saturday Truth Social post, former U.S. President Donald Trump expects to be detained on Tuesday in a Manhattan district attorney’s case and called on his fans to protest.
District attorney spokeswoman denied comment.
Trump said that “illegal leaks” from the Manhattan district attorney’s office predicted his arrest. However, he didn’t specify the charges.
Trump tweeted, “Illegal leaks from a corrupt & very political Manhattan district attorney’s office… indicate that, with no crime being able to be established… the far & away leading Republican contender & former president of the United States of America, will be arrested on Tuesday of next week.”
“Protest, reclaim our nation!” “Trump”
Last year, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg began presenting evidence to a grand jury examining Michael Cohen’s $130,000 payment to porn star Stormy Daniels in the final days of Trump’s 2016 campaign.
Stephanie Clifford, aka Daniels, alleges a decade-old affair with Trump. Trump denies the affair.
Trump, a Republican president from 2017 to 2021, plans to run again in 2024.
According to Trump’s lawyer, Susan Necheles, Bragg’s office invited Trump to testify before the hush money grand jury earlier this month. Law experts felt that indicated an imminent indictment.
Cohen pled guilty in 2018 to federal campaign finance violations involving Daniels and another woman. Trump ordered him to pay. Manhattan’s U.S. Attorney did not charge Trump.
Lanny Davis said Cohen testified before the grand jury on Monday and Wednesday. Grand juries are secret.
Daniels’ lawyer said she spoke with prosecutors last week.
