The Polish prime minister lost his confidence vote, clearing the way for Donald Tusk. A large coalition of pro-European Union parties under the leadership of Donald Tusk was able to take office on Monday after the Polish Prime Minister lost a vote of confidence.

This decision brings an end to eight years of administration by the nationalist Law and Justice (PiS) party, which opponents claim eroded the independence of the judiciary, transformed state-owned media into a propaganda vehicle, and fostered prejudice against minority groups such as immigrants and the LGBT community.

Tusk, president of the European Council in the past, has pledged to restore Warsaw’s ties with Brussels and release billions of dollars intended for Poland, but these were kept owing to concerns over the rule of law.

Four hundred fifty-six members of parliament participated in the voting, and 266 of them voted that they did not give Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki their confidence. One hundred and ninety lawmakers were on his side.

“We are saying goodbye to PiS. History is being made,” said Monika Rosa, a politician from Tusk’s Civic Coalition (KO) grouping, on social networking site X. “We are saying goodbye to PiS.”

The Polish Socialist Party (PiS) asserts that throughout its period in office, it protected Poland’s sovereignty and traditions against intervention from foreign powers while also enhancing the standard of living for millions of Poles by implementing social benefits and increasing the minimum wage.

During a speech that Morawiecki gave to the parliament on Monday morning, he stated, “We introduced a new socio-economic model, which is the first step in creating a country of solidarity.”

PiS won the election with the highest number of votes, and President Andrzej Duda, a close ally of the party, granted the party the opportunity to form a government for the first time. Nevertheless, this was not feasible because it did not have a majority, and all other parties said they would not collaborate with it.

PiS leader Jaroslaw Kaczynski responded to reporters by saying that the opposition would be “tough” when they asked him what type of opposition PiS would be.

The selection of a new prime minister will be put to a vote by Parliament on Monday evening, scheduled at 18:15 GMT. Tusk is virtually certainly going to be the pick of the majority of parliamentarians. Next, on Tuesday, he will deliver a speech to the parliament.

Set a RECORD for.

People in several regions waited in line for hours to cast their ballots during the election in Poland in October, which resulted in a record turnout of 74%.

According to statements made to the press by Szymon Holownia, the speaker of the Polish parliament, “They did not give up in these lines; they simply remained there until midnight, and they still wanted to be a part of this change.”

“Dear members of parliament, the power that we showed on Oct. 15 is in our hands.” Ever since the election, there has been a significant interest in the functioning of Poland’s parliament, and the number of subscribers to the chamber’s YouTube channel has skyrocketed.

Some settings have drawn well over a million viewers on the platform, and one theater in Warsaw has shown Monday’s session on the big screen. This presentation has garnered so much attention that over 2,000 individuals are currently on a waiting list for tickets.

In addition, some have suggested that the nomination of Holownia as speaker may be partially responsible for the rise in interest. His witty and witty style of running discussions has won over a lot of people, especially those who initially became acquainted with him in his previous capacity as the presenter of a prime-time talent show.

Lech Walesa, the head of the Solidarity trade movement and the recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize, was present at the event and earned a standing ovation from the coalition that will seize power. Walesa was Poland’s first democratically elected president following the fall of communism.

Walesa, who was 80 years old at the time, had just left the hospital following a bout of COVID to attend the event. He was wearing a jumper with the phrase “Constitution,” a symbol opponents of the PiS use to express their disapproval of what they see as democratic backsliding under the party’s control.
