George Conway is the co-founder and CEO of BedRyder. The company aims to create unique hardware seats for pickup trucks. Each piece of furniture is almost 65 lbs and can fit in any truck. You only take 5 minutes to install it in the right place. Furthermore, it’s very lightweight to carry.
George Conway set up BedRyder in 2009. He identified the problem in the manufacturing of pickups, whereby large space was left. They were not comfortable. Others had a free trunk on the backside where a person could not sit. But with his product, you feel comfortable enjoying a ride. His product meets all Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards requirements. These seats can transform your vehicle from a truck-like pickup to a new SUV.
I was very privileged to launch a company that has gotten a lot of recognition. We offer top-quality products. Our starter can also be transformed into a bed. At times, we even offer a small table with coffee cups. The seat comes with a safety belt to hold you on bumps.
This product is mainly for those individuals who might want to change their seats or require any additional seats. I have a retail market where I sell all my products. We are still on the journey of research and inventions. We are working towards reducing the cost of manufacturing to lower the market price. It would be awesome if we could offer it at an affordable price. Furthermore, we aim to add some automotive parts to make it very comfortable.
I was one of those kids who would cry when my parents forced me to sit at the back of a pickup truck. I felt like the zone was unsafe. So that’s where my idea came from. The name suggests BedRyder, can take a cool ride while feeling comfortable on a bed.
Federal gave me a license to sell my products in almost 50 states in the US. Depending on the type of truck, you can easily disassemble the unit, and they fit in your ruck.
Carey Hyde is also the co-founder of Ryder. He has been a long-term friend since we were in high school. So for over 40 years, we have shared a lot. That’s why we decided to take this entrepreneurship journey together because of our trust.
I mostly deal with the marketing and sales department, while Hyde works on the management operations and shareholders.
I believe a lot of people need our seater. Thousands of individuals want a back pickup seat to transport their pets or kids to school. So, that’s is where we loom to solve that problem of seat scarcity. After making up that business, we researched and identified the gap market. So, we took another eight weeks to assemble the raw materials.
We hired an expensive automotive forensics officer to test the vehicle’s safety. By 2009, we were ready to sell the products. We did a few advertisements and secured several clients.
I got a chance to share my story at Shark Tank. At that moment, I was looking for pre-seed funds worth $200,000 in exchange for 15% of the total shares. I still appreciate Shark Tank because, after the show, our sales grew by over 200%.
Our product is unique and requires little energy to mount. We even install it freely to tour clients. You need to make three holes in your truck and tighten the bolt. This is to make it stick with the vehicle. I refer to such pickups using our bed as “Truck utility Vehicle.”
We sell each seat-bed for $749. However, I believe over time, we shall reach greater heights. In 2018, we even came up with a different model that could be removed frequently when not in use.
We still produce different designs to attract more people. I believe the only limit is the sky.
To a younger George Conway, try things out. Never be scared of failure because many people toppled. All you need is a clear and open mind to digest more information and knowledge.
