Tesla’s website stated that it will begin shipping the $100,000 Cybertruck this month after stopping orders for the $61,000 model.
Elon Musk has invested much in the Cybertruck’s development and wants to build 200,000 each year, so Tesla regularly monitors demand and supply.
Musk stated Tesla had 1 million truck reservations in October. Due to greater pricing and poorer driving ranges than expected, several buyers are waiting for cheaper variants.
“It shows that demand is a lot less than a million trucks.”
Cox Automotive said that Cybertruck sold roughly 4,800 units in July, its highest month ever, making it the best-selling vehicle over $100,000 in the U.S. “They have sold over 16,000, but sustained high volume at that price point will be a challenge,” emailed a Cox spokeswoman.
After years of delay and a tough production ramp-up, the Cybertruck, which has a stainless-steel body and a trapezoidal façade inspired by the “Blade Runner” movie, began deliveries in November 2023. Musk anticipated in 2019 that the truck would cost $40,000 and go 500 miles or more on a charge.
Tesla’s website no longer allows reservations for a $61,000 Cybertruck with a 250-mile range and 2025 delivery. A $99,990 dual-motor Foundation limited series with a 318-mile range is expected this month, while the $119,990 tri-motor Foundation Cyberbeast with a 301-mile range is available in October.
