The Chinese technology juggernaut Tencent Holdings (0700. HK) presented Last Sentinel, a high-end console game, to the general public on Friday. This game is considered the mobile gaming giant’s most ambitious entry into the console industry.

While attending the Game Awards in Los Angeles, the company in Shenzhen displayed a video for the action role-playing game. Lightspeed LA, a prominent U.S. studio at the center of Tencent’s goals for worldwide expansion, is where about two hundred individuals are working on the development of the title.

With Last Sentinel, gamers can engage in combat with robots in a dystopian Japan. Tencent has not disclosed a debut date for the game.

In 2020, Tencent decided to strengthen its position in the console gaming market by recruiting Steve Martin, a well-known industry veteran who has worked on some of the most successful console games in the world, including Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption.

As a result of the fact that mobile games are often less expensive to make, Chinese gamers have traditionally spent more money on mobile games. Tencent is known chiefly for generating famous mobile games such as PUBG Mobile.

On the other hand, Tencent is investing a lot of resources into high-budget console games as it seeks to grow its operations overseas and satisfy the shifting preferences of Chinese customers right here at home.

Tencent has acquired significant holdings in several of the world’s premier game studios, including a thirty percent ownership stake in Larian Studios. This firm is responsible for the creation of Baldur’s Gate 3. Last Sentinel will illustrate Tencent’s in-house development capabilities.
