The defense ministry announced Wednesday that Taiwan’s annual Han Kuang military training would focus on siege resistance and troop survival.
For three years, China has militarily pressured democratic Taiwan to prove its sovereignty.
After Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen met U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Kevin McCarthy in Los Angeles this month, China tested targeted strikes and blockaded around the island.
Taiwan’s defense ministry said Han Kuang would include tabletop training from May 15 to 19 and live-fire operations from July 24 to 28.
Combat troops’ “preservation” and “maritime interception” will be prioritized.
The government stated it would utilize civilian airports, spread air assets, and hide ground personnel.
The naval element would fight enemy forces and amphibious assault ships using sea, air, and ground troops and protect maritime waterways against blockades.
Beijing always took the island by force. Taiwan will defend democracy and reject Beijing’s sovereignty claims.
Long-range missiles, drones, and one year of required military service strengthen Taiwan’s defenses.
Taiwan’s military is well-trained and armed with U.S. weapons, but China has a numerical advantage and stealth planes.
