King of telecom

T-Mobile announced on Wednesday that it has more users than any other carrier for the 18th straight quarter.

The telecommunications company reported that they gained 1.6 million new customers in the second quarter. For comparison, Sprint had just 87,000 new users. In fact, the companies plan on merging soon.

T-Mobile and Sprint have been in communication about a $26 billion deal that would combine the companies and create a telecommunications giant. It is uncertain whether or not the Justice Department will approve this merger, as it would be a massive telecommunications combination.

If T-Mobile does acquire Sprint, however, the company will be a force to be reckoned with. As T-Mobile continues to have the most users, they are also developing their 5G network with an intended launch in 2019. If they can be the first to offer 5G, they may distance themselves from competitors even further.

In the past five years, T-Mobile has seen their stock jump over 146 percent. In fact, their year-over-year profit has increased by nearly 35 percent. Many people might think Verizon or AT&T is the most elite telecommunications company, but T-Mobile has proven for over four years that it dominates the industry.

If it continues expanding at this rate and acquires Sprint in the meantime, it will be in a great position for a long time.
