In an interview with Automobilwoche, Stellantis’ European boss, Uwe Hochschurtz, expressed optimism about its German subsidiary Opel’s future as an independent brand.

Hochschurtz stated, “I am satisfied with the brand and its selection” in a Sunday interview. There are numerous opportunities for growth.

The design center in Rüsselsheim is one of the most modern in the entire company. While the German plants have a constant capacity utilization and are therefore future-proof.

Hochschurtz accused Opel of losing market share mainly because of insufficient transport capacity to deliver the cars to dealers.

“We had customers, we had cars ready, but they didn’t get where they wanted to go,” he said.
“Capacity is limited due to the lack of truck drivers. That’s why we offered dealers to pick up cars from our warehouses.”

Hochschurtz named Latin America, Turkey and North Africa as good export markets for Opel.

“But the heart of the market is Europe,” he said.
