Masayoshi Son, CEO of SoftBank (9984.T), stated that he anticipates the development of artificial general intelligence (AGI), or machine intelligence that is superior to human intellect in practically all domains, within the next ten years.
Son asserted during a speech at the SoftBank World Business Conference that he thinks artificial general intelligence (AGI) will be ten times smarter than all of human intellect combined. He mentioned the quick development of generative AI, which has surpassed human intellect in several areas.
Since humans developed AI, it is incorrect to assert that it cannot be smarter than people, he stated. As with humans, AI is now capable of self-learning, self-training, and self-inferencing. Son has long discussed how artificial general intelligence (AGI) has the potential to revolutionize business and society, frequently using the term “singularity,” but this is the first time he has provided a timescale for its advancement.
In addition, he unveiled the concept of “Artificial Super Intelligence” during the conference, which he said would be realized in 20 years and 10,000 times more intelligent than humans. Son is renowned for his clever investments that helped SoftBank become a titan in the tech investment industry and his spectacularly unsuccessful ventures.
He also has a penchant for asserting vehemently the revolutionary power of new technology. In contrast to his projections regarding the Internet of Things, his predictions concerning mobile internet have mainly come true.
Son restated his conviction in chip designer Arm as the foundation of the “AI revolution” and urged Japanese businesses to “wake up” to the potential of AI, noting that they had fallen farther behind in the internet age.
Rene Haas, CEO of Arm, praised the designs’ high energy efficiency during a video presentation at the conference and predicted that they will be more sought after to power artificial intelligence.
Son asserted that he believes he is the only one who anticipates the development of AGI in the next ten years. Haas claimed he anticipated it happening throughout his lifetime.
