Shopee, an e-commerce startup, agreed to change its services in Indonesia on Wednesday after the country’s antitrust authority accused the platform of violating anti-monopoly regulations.
After being accused of the crimes last month, Indonesia’s antitrust agency, known as KPPU, claimed in a statement that Shopee had consented to violate anti-competition restrictions by directing customers to certain delivery suppliers.
“Shopee is always committed to complying with all applicable regulations and laws in the Republic of Indonesia when conducting our business operations,” Radynal Nataprawira, Head of Public Affairs at Shopee Indonesia, said in a statement.
Shopee also said that it has proposed changes to its user interface to demonstrate compliance with KPPU’s recommendations and to deliver the best possible services to its consumers.
Shopee, the market leader in Indonesia’s fast developing e-commerce business, is owned by Southeast Asian technological behemoth, Sea Ltd.
Aside from Shopee, KPPU has been investigating the local business of another e-commerce site, Lazada, the Southeast Asian affiliate of Alibaba.
