Shazam Creates Feature for Apple Music Connect

Shazam and Apple team up to create a whole new music sharing experience.

Tech Crunch has referred to this feature as “a sort of Facebook of musicians”. The new feature essentially allows for users to follow their favorite artists, and see what they are shazaming.

“Our users Shazam over 20 million times each day to discover the music playing around them. Now, those Shazams transform into an ongoing relationship with artists, giving users a truly unique place to get great music content,” said Chief Executive Officer at Shazam Rich Riley in a press release.

If users want to listen to a song that someone shazamed, they can click the “Listen on Apple Music” which will load and allow them to listen to the song.

Apple music launched June 30, and offers users three free months, afterwards a $9.99/month fee will be applied to your apple account. Apple music will involve Apple radio, allowing users to stream live radio stations 24-hours.

Siri will still be available in this app, and she will help answer users answer their burning questions like the number one, or best song on a certain date.

Apple Music Connect is the feature that Shazam had in mind when creating their new features.

It will allow users to see their favorite artist’s music lyrics, and videos and photos from their tours. This feature also has a sharing option for fans to post things to their social media.

Tech Crunch pointed out,

“the feature’s launch appears to be in reaction Apple Music’s upcoming social features, which introduces a way to follow favorite artists – something that’s available on Shazam as well.”

According to Shazam, over 30 artists already involved with this program, including Calvin Harris, Avicii, and Maroon 5. For a full list of artists, visit Shazam.com.

If none of them appeal to you, Shazam says after the initial launch, there will be more to come.

Hunter Hayes told Shazam,

“I absolutely love music and can’t tell you how many times I find myself going down the rabbit hole of music discovery for hours. I’m excited that Shazam now allows me to share this crazy journey with you guys.”

These features can open a whole new world of music to users.

This will also rival Spotify, who allows their users to follow their favorite musicians. From here they can listen to their favorite performer’s music, from their top hits to their lower selling albums. The features on Spotify and Pandora both allow for users to find music similar to their favorite bands, but Shazam takes it a step up and allows for users to listen to what their favorite artists are listening to as well.

According to Chief Product Officer at Shazam Daniel Danker,

“the biggest artists in the world are also the biggest fans. They use Shazam every day to explore new music, and for the first time ever, their faces can share in those moments as they happen.”

In order to indicate you like one of the artists that Shazam suggests, simple press the “like” button. Visit Artist’s pages and get a glimpse of music they’ve been loving and see how many followers your favorite artist has. As of now, Pitbull has the highest follower count at 44.7 million followers.

Shazam will also be revealing how many times a track has been Shazamed.

While Shazam does has plans to have merging features with Apple Music, if it goes over well enough with its users, it could become Apple Music’s rival.
