Sense, the sleep system that tracks one’s sleeping behavior throughout the night, raised over $120,000 on Kickstarter in just a few hours. According to Kickstarter, this device combines noted sleep patterns with environmental triggers in the bedroom, such as noise, light, temperature and humidity, to make one’s sleeping experience more pleasant.
James Proud, a member of the Thiel Fellows, founded Hello Inc., which will release Sense as its first product.
“I wanted to create something that didn’t feel like a piece of electronics that you don’t want, like an Apple TV sitting beside your bed. It had to be something that you’d be happy with having there even if it wasn’t doing anything,” said Proud, according to TechCrunch.
The Sense app monitors one’s sleep cycle and communicates his or her sleep success with a Sleep Score each night. Kickstarter reported that the device allows one to play back key disturbances that may have caused stirring in the night. In addition, it can play calming sleep sounds, similar to a sound machine, or serve as an alarm that goes off at the most desirable time during a sleep cycle.
“Sleep is the one time that you’re not conscious for and you don’t know what happened. Sleep is something you do every day and it’s important in determining how the rest of your day goes,” said Proud, according to Forbes.
Proud proves to be confident in his newest product, and according to Forbes, he remains hopeful that Kickstarter will help him raise money because it is “the best way to reach people.”
