The Swiss foreign ministry tweeted that it closed its Khartoum embassy and evacuated workers and their families due to security concerns.

“Our staff and their families have been evacuated and are safe,” Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis tweeted late Sunday.

The Foreign Ministry evacuated seven embassy personnel and five accompanying people. They were healthy and evacuated to Djibouti by France, with two going to Ethiopia. “Our partners, especially France, made the exercise possible,” Cassis added.

Helping Swiss in Sudan continued. On Friday, the Swiss foreign ministry reported 100 Swiss nationals registered in Sudan and others visiting the Red Sea as tourists.

Over the past week, a humanitarian crisis, 420 deaths, and millions of Sudanese without basic utilities have resulted from fighting between competing armed factions.

Countries are evacuating thousands of foreigners, including diplomats and aid workers.

France reported evacuating 388 individuals on Monday.

A German air force plane carrying 101 Sudanese refugees landed in Berlin early Monday amid a fragile ceasefire in Khartoum.
