Sass & Bide is in for a big change as founders Heidi Middleton and Sarah-Jane Clarke have decided to part ways with the company, according to Vogue. After 15 years behind the brand, the two designers are now moving on to fulfill another area of their lives.
“Both Heidi and Sarah-Jane have been slowly transitioning out of the business, and it has now reached a point where both girls feel confident that the business will go on to grow and thrive without their day-to-day involvement,” Sass & Bide said in a statement, according to Vogue.
The business may be able to carry on without Middleton and Clarke, but the two designers’ hard work will be greatly missed. They jumpstarted the brand in 2000 and had a bit of a rocky start. The Cut, however, reported that shortly after 2002 they went from selling their garments on London’s Portobello Road to showcasing these masterpieces during Sydney, New York and London fashion weeks. The business has since taken off and is in a steady spot to delegate the ownership elsewhere.
Middleton and Clarke sold 65 percent of the business just three years ago, so the full surrender of power and roles did not come as a huge surprise. The Guardian reported that Anthony Cuthbertson will be the new design director and will take charge of the creative team with art director Bonnie O’Hare.
“The girls leave behind a rich legacy of creating a brand that is built on spirit and heart, qualities that are deeply etched in the collections, the communications and its people. Those qualities will continue to define and drive the brand for years to come,” Sass & Bide said in a statement, according to The Daily Mail.
