Local authorities reported two deaths and 19 injuries from a Russian drone attack in Sumy on Monday. The Sumy regional government said on Telegram that four drones damaged two residential and one official structure.
Ukraine’s state emergency service shared images of wrecked buildings and courtyards as rescuers battled a fire.
Several hours after the morning strike, the Ukrainian air force warned of other drones in Sumy.
On Monday, Kyiv’s military reported shooting down 13 of 17 Iranian-made Shahed drones launched by Moscow overnight in a separate attack on several regions.
Ukraine has initiated a counteroffensive to recapture captured territory from Russia, which invaded Ukraine in February 2022.
