Local officials said the Russian air attack on Lviv in the early hours of Tuesday injured one man and set an industrial warehouse on fire.
A woman and man were found under Lviv’s ruins. The woman was not wounded, preliminary reports show. Governor Maxim Kozitsky of Lviv announced on Telegram that the man is seriously ill.
Reuters could not verify the report. The attack’s scope and damage were unknown. No immediate response from Russia.
Lviv mayor Andriy Sadovyi said air raid alerts were lifted at 0300 GMT after nearly three hours.
Since the war began in February 2022, Russia has launched countless attacks on Ukraine’s territories away from the battle lines to destroy facilities vital to Ukrainian defense, energy, and agriculture.
In a packed market in eastern Ukraine’s Kostiantynivka, a Russian attack killed at least 17 people earlier this month. The New York Times reported late Monday that Ukraine’s response was a “tragic mishap.”
Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskiy strongly condemned the strike, blaming Russia.
“Missile fragments, satellite imagery, witness accounts, and social media posts strongly suggest the catastrophic strike was caused by an errant Ukrainian air defense missile fired by a Buk launch system,” The New York Times reported.
