Ukrainian officials say Russia struck military and infrastructure targets in Kyiv and Lviv early Tuesday. Ukraine shot down 32 35 Iranian-made Shahed drones launched from Russia’s Bryansk area and the Azov Sea.
Regional governor Maksym Kozytskiy claimed a “critically important facility” was hit in Lviv, far from the war lines and 70 km (43 miles) from NATO member Poland. The facility was not described.
Moscow’s midnight air attacks, the latest since Kyiv initiated a counteroffensive, did not cause any casualties.
The air force reported on Telegram that air defenses were active throughout Ukraine.
Iranian drones primarily targeted Kyiv. “Over two dozen Shaheds were destroyed here,” it stated.
President Volodymyr Zelenskiy’s office said drones targeted Kyiv in several waves, triggering a four-hour air alert. Commercial and administrative buildings and some residential homes were destroyed, it said.
The Energy Ministry reported drone debris damaged power cables in Kyiv and the southern Mykolaiv area, knocking off electricity for hundreds of households.
Air Force spokeswoman Yuriy Ihnat said in a radio interview that air defense systems could not cover all of Ukraine.
The air force said that Russia fired Iskander and S-300 missiles at Zaporizhzhia, a southeastern industrial city.
Russia targeted telecommunication infrastructure and agriculture and farming properties, according to Zaporizhzhia military administration head Yuriy Malashko.
Ukraine’s military reported Russia fired seven missiles at Zaporizhzhia.
On Monday, a Russian artillery bombardment on Sumy in the northeast killed a 70-year-old lady and wounded three others, according to the prosecutor.
The reports were unverified by Reuters. Russia remained silent.
