The United States Navy accomplished quite the task, as they successfully broke the sound barrier.
The speed of sound travels at 761 miles per hour, a speed that a navy jet was able to outrun. The F/A-18E/F Rhino military plane was designed by engineers equipped to accomplish travel faster.
The plane, that was nicknamed Rhino, travelled so fast that if you blinked for a second you would have missed its arrival. Its approach on the middle section of the carrier it was scheduled to land on, created a sonic boom as the sound waves caught up to the vehicle as it slowed down. The result of the noise is because the sound waves cumulate back into one creating this extremely thunderous noise. A noise that will most certainly cause a person to lose their hearing if unprotected.
The United States government has attempted and accomplished on several occasions in breaking the sound barrier, the newest technology allows for engineers to travel faster each time. And each time is as impressive as the next, and the Navy Officers in the video can see that, as well as everyone else who has watched the clip below.
