The Hindu reported Saturday that Ukraine’s First Deputy Foreign Minister Emine Dzhaparova would visit India on Monday to request humanitarian relief and equipment to rebuild energy infrastructure devastated by Russia’s invasion.
India, which holds the G20 presidency this year, has sought a diplomatic solution while increasing its purchases of Russian oil.
Dzhaparova, making her first visit to India since Russia’s invasion, will call on India to send a “strong message for peace” to Russian President Vladimir Putin, who will visit India in July for a Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit and again in September for a G20 summit, the newspaper reported.
According to diplomatic sources, Ukraine has sought more humanitarian help, including medications, medical equipment, and energy equipment, to replace the electricity infrastructure damaged during the battle.
The report stated Dzhaparova’s visit was still being planned. India’s foreign ministry didn’t immediately comment.
The article said that Dzhaparova would invite Modi to Kyiv.
The article reported that Dzhaparova would discuss Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy’s 10-point peace plan with the Indian government and ask for India’s “crucial global voice” to develop a consensus.
The publication said that Ukraine wants to attend G20 meetings and have Zelenskiy speak at the summit.
The New Delhi think organization Indian Council of Global Affairs tweeted that Dzhaparova would speak on Tuesday.
