Rebecca Ferguson Takes a Stand Against Unprofessionalism

Swedish actress Rebecca Ferguson has shared a distressing experience from her career, revealing that she once refused to work with a co-star who verbally abused her on set, reducing her to tears. Speaking on the Reign with Josh Smith podcast, Ferguson did not disclose the identity or gender of the co-star in question but described them as an “absolute idiot.”

According to Ferguson, the co-star exhibited insecurity and anger, criticizing her openly in front of the entire crew. The actor would allegedly question her abilities and professionalism, saying, “You call yourself an actor? This is what I have to work with?” The confrontation left Ferguson feeling scared, leading her to stand up for herself.

Despite being aware of the power dynamics, Ferguson took a bold step to address the situation, with the co-star being number one on the call sheet. She asked the individual to leave the set, stating that she would rather act toward a tennis ball than share the screen with them. When producers insisted that the co-star be allowed on set, Ferguson requested to act facing the back of the co-star’s head.

Reflecting on the incident, Ferguson mentioned that it took her many years to build the confidence to stand up against such behavior. She acknowledged that the director at the time was not adequately addressing the issue, focusing on appeasing the volatile co-star instead of ensuring a supportive environment for the entire cast and crew.

While Ferguson refrained from revealing the co-star’s identity, she clarified that it was neither Tom Cruise from Mission Impossible nor Hugh Jackman from The Greatest Showman. Dwayne Johnson, who worked with Ferguson on Hercules in 2014, responded to a clip of the interview, expressing his support for Ferguson and his desire to know who the offending co-star was.

Ferguson’s candid revelation sheds light on the challenges actors face in the industry, emphasizing the importance of fostering a respectful and collaborative working environment on film sets. Her decision to share this experience contributes to the ongoing conversation about the need for accountability and professionalism in the entertainment industry.
