Qualcomm Inc. (QCOM.O) said on Monday that it would acquire Israel’s Autotalks Ltd., which produces processors for crash-prevention technology.
Chipmakers are seeing growth in the automotive business as manufacturers utilize more chips for electric vehicles and autonomous functions.
Autotalks manufactures V2X chips. Road safety technology for human and driverless cars.
“We have been investing in V2X research, development, and deployment since 2017 and believe that as the automotive market matures, a standalone V2X safety architecture will be needed for enhanced road user safety, as well as smart transportation systems,” said Qualcomm Technologies senior vice-president – automotive Nakul Duggal.
Qualcomm announced last year that its automotive business “pipeline” has grown to $30 billion, up $10 billion since July.
Snapdragon Digital Chassis, utilized by automakers and suppliers, was attributed to the increase. The Snapdragon Digital Chassis offers assisted and automated driving, in-car entertainment, and cloud connection.
Qualcomm said Monday that it would integrate Autotalks’ technologies into Snapdragon Digital Chassis but did not disclose financial terms. However, Qualcomm noted that Qualcomm Technologies will acquire.
