Putin says Trump’s prosecution shows U.S. system is ‘rotten.’ On Tuesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the prosecution of former United States President Donald Trump was politically motivated and demonstrated that the political system in the United States was “rotten.” Putin made these statements at a press conference.

In remarks delivered at a symposium in the city of Vladivostok, located in Russia’s Far Eastern region, Vladimir Putin also said that big changes in the relationship between the United States and Russia were unlikely regardless of who was elected as the next president of the United States.
Trump, who is now the front-runner for the Republican candidacy for president in 2024, is currently facing a series of criminal charges in which he is accused, among other things, of attempting to reverse his loss to Joe Biden in the presidential election that took place in 2020.

Putin said that the current events in the United States highlighted “all the rottenness of the American system” and the persecution of a political opponent for political reasons.
