The Israeli-Palestinian issue may come up at the meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping this week in Beijing, according to a Kremlin spokesperson reported by the Russian news agency RIA.
On Monday, Putin jumped into the Middle East crisis with a flurry of phone calls to important regional parties, telling Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that Moscow intended to assist in stopping a humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza.
Peskov reaffirmed Putin’s position on Tuesday, saying that the rise in violence between Israel and the Palestinians resulted from the failure of U.S. policy in the Middle East. He said the tragedy is developing due to the nations’ dismissive approach to the issue.
Peskov states, “the threat of the conflict growing is still present.” This might have almost unimaginable repercussions for the entire area.
“The main thing is to stop the ‘hot’ war and then … conceptually approach the settlement process with new efforts,” Peskov stated. “An independent Palestinian state is needed, Israel needs security guarantees, Israelis should live in peace and feel safe.”
Media outlets cited Peskov as saying that Putin does not yet have a peace strategy for the war. He stated that a solution must be found.
On Monday, the U.N. Security Council rejected a Russian-drafted resolution that sought a humanitarian truce in the conflict between Israel and the Gaza-based Hamas terrorists.
Putin came to Beijing on Tuesday to meet with Xi as part of a closely anticipated tour to highlight the trust and “no-limits” relationship between the two nations despite the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
