Prince William visited the Polish president in Warsaw on Thursday, the second day of his tour, to thank troops and locals for supporting Ukraine.
The heir-apparent lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier before visiting President Andrzej Duda.
Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip, the prince’s late grandparents, put a wreath there on their 1996 state visit.
The president’s office tweeted that Duda discussed humanitarian relief for Ukraine with Prince William.
“The Prince of Wales took the opportunity to thank the president and the Polish people who have done so much to help the people of Ukraine who have fled here,” a spokeswoman said.
The largest country on NATO’s eastern border hosts over a million Ukrainian refugees and has been lauded for its aid.
William’s last destination was a Warsaw food hall where he spoke with a group of teenage immigrants who work or study in Poland.
The prince greeted 20–30 local well-wishers at the food hall.
The royal’s unannounced journey is under heavy protection. On Wednesday, Prince William visited Poland’s Defence Minister, Mariusz Blaszczak, and Polish and British troops in Rzeszow, southern Poland.
Later on Wednesday, he visited a Warsaw office building that had been turned into an accommodation center for 300 Ukrainian women and children who had fled the fighting.
The Prince of Wales met with citizens and played table tennis with Warsaw Mayor Rafal Trzaskowski.
