Poland’s Armed Forces Report Russian Violation of Airspace in Attack on Ukraine

On Sunday, Poland’s armed forces reported that Russia had breached Polish airspace by launching a cruise missile aimed at targets in western Ukraine. This violation occurred as part of a broader offensive by Russia, which saw the launch of 57 missiles and drones targeting various locations, including Kyiv and the western region of Lviv near the Polish border.

According to the armed forces, the breach occurred at 4:23 a.m. local time, with the missile entering Polish airspace near the town of Oserdow in the Lublin Voivodeship and remaining there for 39 seconds. Military radar systems tracked the object throughout its flight.

In response to the airspace violation, Poland’s foreign ministry plans to summon the Russian ambassador for an explanation. Deputy Foreign Minister Andrzej Szejna conveyed this intention during an interview with private broadcaster Polsat News.

The Polish government has condemned Russia’s actions and called for an immediate cessation of “terrorist air attacks” on Ukraine’s territory and civilians. A spokesman for the Polish foreign ministry emphasized the need for Russia to halt its aggression, end the war in Ukraine, and focus on addressing its internal issues.

This breach of Polish airspace underscores the escalating tensions and the regional impact of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. It heightens concerns about the potential spillover effects of the war, particularly for neighboring countries like Poland. As diplomatic efforts to resolve the crisis continue, the situation remains volatile, with the risk of further escalations and repercussions for the entire region.
