PillPack’s Medication Delivery Service is Expanding

Get your prescriptions sent right to your door. The new company, PillPack, takes on big pharmacies such as RiteAid and Walgreens, introducing a new and much easier way to receive your pharmaceutical needs.

In Series C financing the company rounded up about $50 million to help them build up their company.

They launched in 2014 and have been working with insurance and physicians to ship out medication regularly straight to the consumers door. Each medication is sent in its own unique packaging and is sent out every two weeks to any desired address. The shipped items include prescriptions, vitamins and over-the-counter drugs.

In the last two years, PillPack has shipped over one million dose packs over 48 U.S. states. Now the company plans to even start their own physical pharmacies.

But, PillPack is not the only medication delivery service out there. They have competition with Heal, an on-demand physician service that sends someone to drop off their prescriptions right after their visit. The company Sidecar is also said to start medication delivery soon. The pharmacies may give the company the edge it needs to stand up to its competitors.

CEO Tj Parker told TechCrunch that he hopes to re-introduce the “friendly neighborhood pharmacists” from the past and provide “an even more delightful experience for our customers.”

Most of the company’s raised money will go to these facilities which will be developed in large metro areas like New York City and San Francisco. Additional funds will be put towards sales, engineering and operations for their delivery services.

At the pharmacy one can expect an option to receive their prescriptions sooner than it would take to ship them out and have a professional pharmacist on duty at all times.

The pharmacies are projected to be up by the end of the year.
