The man who served as an artist on the original television series Cosmos is helping to lead a new mission for NASA. Jon Lomberg, has been designing the “Voyager Record Project.” This involved designing a couple of pictures that helped best depict the planet earth just in case any alien life stumbled upon it.
As of now, the “New Horizons” spacecraft will come at its closest point on July 14th, after which it will be sent off to the planet Pluto. As if that is not exciting enough, the probe will carry uploaded data from earth all the way to the last planet in our solar system.
This “One Earth Message” project will take photographs all the way from earth to Pluto. Talk about an upload into empty space! The photo contest by NASA will let people participate in sending images. The winning images will then be selected to be uploaded on the space probe to send far, far away in space.
Like something out of a science fiction show, maybe someday alien life will enjoy seeing photographs that were clicked on good old earth. NASA is still in the process of raising money start the website and to upload the images to the spacecraft that will be on its way to Pluto.
