Pertamina, Indonesia’s national energy provider, announced late Monday that it would work with Electrum to produce battery packs for electric motorcycles.
On Friday, Electrum, a joint venture between coal miner TBS Energi Utama (TOBA.JK) and tech giant GoTo Gojek Tokopedia (GOTO.JK), broke ground on its electric scooter plant, which will produce 250,000 scooters per year.
According to Dicky Septriadi, Pertamina’s renewables unit and Electrum’s battery packing factory might have a 300-megawatt capacity.
Indonesia wants to develop a whole supply chain for electric vehicle (EV) batteries using its nickel reserves, which are the world’s largest.
