Pakistan called India’s intention to conduct G20 meetings in Kashmir next month “irresponsible” on Tuesday.
The two nuclear-armed neighbors have fought two of their three wars over Kashmir.
India hosts a G20 leaders’ conference in New Delhi in early September.
India issued a detailed calendar of activities running up to the summit on Friday, including G20 and Youth 20 summits in Kashmir’s summer capital of Srinagar and Ladakh’s Leh in April and May.
Pakistan’s foreign ministry denounced venue selection in the disputed region.
“India’s reckless decision is the latest in a series of self-serving steps to sustain its unlawful occupation of Jammu and Kashmir,” it stated.
India was accused of “disregarding the UN Security Council decisions and in breach of the norms of the UN Charter and international law.”
“Pakistan bitterly rejects these measures,” it stated.
Pakistan’s remark went unanswered by India’s foreign ministry.
New Delhi has accused Pakistan of fueling a decades-long separatist conflict in Jammu and Kashmir, India’s only Muslim-majority state.
Islamabad says it exclusively supports Kashmiris seeking self-determination diplomatically and morally.
India denies Pakistan’s allegations of human rights abuses in Kashmir.
