On Mon., Jun. 9, One Direction announced that they would be releasing their third fragrance called “You & I”.
Their first fragrance, “One Moment”, was tremendously successful. The perfume had a long waiting list before it was even available for purchase in the fall of 2013. The pink-bottled perfume made over $500 thousand in its first week. The scent’s notes were a mix of pink grapefruit, wild berries, red currant, jasmine, freesia and musk. At the time of the fragrance’s release, band member Niall Horan stated, “Fans always want to know what we like and what we don’t like so we wanted to show them what we like smell-wise on girls.”
One Direction’s second fragrance, “That Moment” was released in May 2013. It was similar to “Our Moment” but with top notes of apple, cucumber, and tangerine and mid notes of peony and violet. The dry notes of the fragrance seemed to be patchouli, creamy musk, and cedarwood. The new perfume will not resemble the past two but rather be a newly concocted scent.
The British boy band did not release the news in a typical printed press release. Instead, member Liam Payne broke the news rather spontaneously. Payne recorded a short clip in which he introduces the fragrance, saying, “Hey guys, so we’ve got some really really big news for you. We have a new fragrance coming out, it’s coming out later this summer called You & I. We’ve worked really hard on it. We tried to find a scent that we all like and we worked really hard on designing the packaging and the bottle as well. So, can’t wait for you guys to see it—enjoy!”
The video of Liam’s statement can be viewed on Youtube. Currently, One Direction is keeping busy on their “Where We Are” world tour throughout Europe.
