The oil minister claims sabotage of Iran’s main gas pipeline: Sabotage caused two explosions on Wednesday in Iran’s leading south-north gas pipeline network; the oil minister informed state TV without identifying suspects.
State media said authorities disputed that the event disrupted gas to certain provinces’ industries and offices.
“This terrorist act of sabotage occurred at 1 a.m. (9.30 p.m. GMT) on Wednesday morning in the network of national gas transmission pipelines in two regions of the country,” Javad Owji said.
Late tonight, Owji indicated that only towns near the broken pipeline will have gas disruptions. State media reported maintenance-planned temporary limits.
Owji cited a 2011 sabotage event that caused gas shortages in four districts.
In 2017, Iranian Arab separatist militants claimed to have blown up two oil pipelines in western Khuzestan province, a rare incident in Iran.
Iran murdered five Mossad-linked saboteurs in December in a decades-long shadow war in which Tehran accuses Israel of attacking its nuclear and missile projects, something Israel has never confirmed.
