The military claimed Ukrainian air defense workers destroyed 15 of 18 Russian missiles launched early Monday morning while air raid sirens blared nationwide for more than three hours.

“Around 2:30 am (1130 GMT), the Russian invaders attacked Ukraine from strategic aviation planes,” Valeriy Zaluzhnyi, Ukraine’s commander-in-chief, wrote on Telegram.

15 of 18 missiles were destroyed, it added.

Kyiv’s city officials said on Telegram that all capital-targeted rockets were destroyed.

The city government reported no civilian deaths or infrastructural damage.

Officials claimed air defense systems protected the Kyiv area, which is administratively distinct from the city, from Russian missiles.

Ukrainian media reported Dnipropetrovsk and Sumy bombings.

Russia has increased missile assaults on Ukraine in recent days. The new bombings were unconfirmed by Reuters.
